Acclimation

We are slowly saying goodbye to those overnight brief kisses of the 30s and welcoming daytime highs of 72° today and 74° tomorrow.

I honestly couldn’t be happier with my bare feet out here in the backyard. It’s been a challenging winter in many ways. I physically dealt with storms and lows in the 20s while I mentally shook loose mindful lows by warming up and embracing stagnant dreams. A season of hibernation that fueled contemplation resulting in decisive choices.

A new moon and lunar new year had me buzzing like the waking bees (and mosquitos) and I’m starting my spring migration – both literally & figuratively. Some movement out of greenhouse today and tidying dead growth, repotting, etc. I’ll be leaving door open to help the remaining babies acclimate over the next few weeks… and propping a door open in my mind too.

That’s the word of this pre-spring season for me, my plants, my family….

acclimation

ac· cli· ma· tion ˌa-klə-ˈmā-shən

“the process or result of becoming accustomed to a new climate or to new conditions or environmental change.”

So much change in the rear view and up ahead. The ground feels soft but unstable, like when one steps on a mole’s underground path. The time of passivity during hibernation is almost over. New growth is sprouting and ready to BLOOM through the soft soil and the garbage has become compost during the cold months.

Let’s do this!
